- A study that was conducted by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reported that almost 10% of emergency room visits each year in the United States are linked to alcohol use.
- Heavy alcohol consumption makes someone seven times more likely to develop esophageal cancer, 80% more likely to have colon cancer and 50% more likely to develop lung cancer.
- Many aspects of alcohol's health effects have not been studied, including various systems of the body that include the immune system, gall bladder function, and arthritis; thus the importance of supporting alcohol research funding.
