  • At some time or another, over two-thirds of the population in the United States has been reported to drink alcohol socially, according to research conducted by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
  • When a person consumes alcohol, their eye-hand coordination is also affected as well as the ability to perform more than one task at a time. Add in the lack of judgment and you're dealing with some major performance issues throughout the day. Simple things like watching for oncoming traffic are forgotten, which puts you and others in harms way.
  • Alcohol rapidly moves to the brain and passes the blood-brain barrier, which normally keeps harmful substances away from the brain; upon entering the brain, alcohol affects the neurons, causing judgment and coordination problems.
  • Between 1921 and 1923, about seven thousand persons were arrested for breaking prohibition laws in New York. However, only 27 of them were convicted.
