When chronic heavy drinkers that took place in a government sponsored study substituted alcohol for carbohydrates in their diets, they were reported to lose weight and to weigh less than their nondrinking counterparts; additionally, when chronic heavy drinkers added alcohol to an otherwise normal diet, they did not appear to gain weight.
Alcohol is broken down by the liver at the rate of approximately one unit per hour (a pint of normal strength beer being two units). As a result, it is possible to still be under the influence of alcohol the following morning.
Alcohol consumption by college students is linked to at least 1,400 student deaths and 500,000 unintentional injuries each year.
In 2009, 28% of students reported being a passenger in a car or other vehicle during the past 30 days which was driven by someone who had been consuming alcohol.
