The prevalence of binge drinking among students who reported current alcohol use increased with grade level, from 51.1% in 9th grade students to 67.4% in 12th grade students.
Although medical amnesty policies are well meaning and offer tremendous opportunities to potentially reduce the number of alcohol related deaths on college campuses, they are based on assumptions that the individuals involved are educated in identifying and understanding the risks that are associated with the symptoms of alcohol poisoning.

Adequate supervision and clear communication by parents about the negative effects of alcohol and about parental expectations regarding alcohol and other drug use can significantly decrease alcohol use in teens.
